The Romanian Olympic Academy (A.O.R) is an institution of the Romanian Olympic and Sport Committee,organized according to the principles of the Olympic Carta,the Olympic and Sport Committee statute and it's own statute.
            It's main purpose is to assert and promote the generous ideas of olympism,of the olympic spirit and olympic principles in the sport activity in Romania.
            Other objectives are:
- the study of the historical,cultural,ethical and social aspects of the Global Olympic Movement and of the Olympic Movement in our country,and also those reffering to the Olympic Games;
- the promotion of fair-play,of the fight against violence,doping and corruption in sport;
- the protection of sport and athletes from any negative influence which can lead astray from the olypic principles and sport ethics;
- contribution to forming,in the spirit of Olympic ideals,of the specialists in physical eduation and sport;
- the encouragement of the study and research activities,and also of artistic creation with Olympic themes.
            The foundational purposes of the Romanian Olympic Academy aim to complete the human personality through the harmony between the physical and spiritual.
            Olympism is a state of humanity,a means of bringing people together,it represents a form of manifestation of the universal culture.Considered as the father of Olympism,baron Pierre de Coubertin anticipated that this grand state of mind,founded on the principles of the Olympic Carta,will last in time,contributing to the improvement of man and harmonization of social relations.
            Pierre de Coubertin and his generation have succeded in revolutionisng olympism,accrediting it as one of the spiritual landmarks of modern age,the performance was possible because they approached the phenomenon looking at it's universality.The saw the Olympic Games ,Olympic Movement and Olympism not as an ornament of civilized history ,but as a necessary component of it.
            The purpose of olympism is that to place,beyond anything,sport in the service of the harmonious development of man,with the aim of encouraging the development of a pacifist society,being preoccupied with the protection of human dignity.
            The International Olympic Movement (the Olympic Games being the essence) is run by the International Olympic Committee,with the headquarters at Laussanne.
            In 1994,the city of Laussanne was declared "Olympic Capital".
